A part of the MAPS for Altus program (Make Altus Progressive), the $17 million dollar renovation/addition takes place at Altus Public Schools on top of many millions of dollars of renovations across the Altus Public School District. Altus has five elementary schools, an intermediate school, a Junior High and four year High School. We also have Bulldog academy for those students that require special attention and/or supervision. The Altus School District has approximately 4000 students with a low student to teacher ratio of 14 to 1. There are approximately 300 teachers of the over 500 employees to serve our most precious commodity, our children.

Southwest Technology Center (SWTC) in Altus, Oklahoma is a proud member of the world class Oklahoma Career Tech System, meeting the needs of the Oklahoma Workforce and enhancing the economy and quality of life in Oklahoma Communities. Our Tech center is dedicated to quality and committed to helping people become successful one career at a time.
SWTC provides full-time training to the Southwest Oklahoma communities of Altus, Blair, Duke, Eldorado, Granite, Navajo and Olustee free of charge to Junior and Senior students in high school. Adults may also enroll in full-time training programs on a tuition basis. College credit is available for most of the full-time programs through a cooperative alliance between SWTC and Western Oklahoma State College (WOSC) located in Altus.
Available fulltime programs include: Automotive Technology, Aviation and Aerospace Technology, Business and Computer Technology-Financial and Medical, Construction Trades, Cosmetology, Electronics Technology, Health Science I & II, Practical Nursing, Service Careers Technology and Simulator Maintenance Technology.
The Business and Industry Department at SWTC can not only offer training in a variety of short-term classes, but can tailor any short-term class to meet the needs of industry in Southwest Oklahoma. The Business and Industry Department is available on a fulltime basis for new business startup, Employee training to improve effectiveness, Bid assistance for understanding and obtaining government contracts, help for overcoming challenges in doing business and support for business workplace challenges.

Altus, OK is the home of Western Oklahoma State College.
Western Oklahoma State College (WOSC) was established as a municipal two-year college in 1926 and is the oldest original municipal college still in existence in Oklahoma. In 1969 the college assumed status as a state junior college and in 1974 the college became a state educational institution with its official name Western Oklahoma State College by an act of the Oklahoma State Legislature.
Mission and Purpose
WOSC is committed to providing exemplary educational opportunities to meet the needs of the individual and society. WOSC’s educational programs and services are designed to help people achieve their individual potential, enrich their lives, and become responsible and productive members of society.
WOSC exists to provide a general education for all students in several basic fields of university-parallel study for those students who plan to transfer and complete a bachelor’s degree. The college also exists to provide one and two year programs of technical and occupational education to prepare individuals to enter the labor market. WOSC also exists to provide programs of remedial and developmental education for those whose previous education may not have prepared them for college.

WOSC provides a traditional college atmosphere including many student clubs and campus activities. The college offers several sports programs including: Baseball, Golf , Men’s Basketball, Rodeo, Softball, Women’s Basketball, and Cheerleading.
In addition to an outstanding community and residential campus, Western Oklahoma State College offers educational opportunities at a distance. WOSC delivers distance learning opportunities in a variety of convenient ways for you to access education, regardless of where you reside. One of our more popular offerings is our accelerated format intercession courses. In these courses you can earn up to 3 hours of college credit in an accelerated 10 day format.
Western Oklahoma State College also brings upper division and graduate degree programs to the Altus community to enhance educational access for our residents.
WOSC offer courses and programs in three formats: Telecourse (and Teleweb), Interactive Video (ITV) Courses, and Online Courses over the World Wide Web. Telecourses allow you to view course content through videos at your convenience. Interactive Video Courses put you in touch with other students and an instructor via real-time, interactive video links. Web Courses give you the ultimate flexibility in accessing course information and communicating with your instructor over the internet.
